Bifacial solar modules use a transparent back sheet or dual-glass construction to capture reflected sunlight from below the panel. In ground-mount projects with highly reflective surroundings (white membrane, concrete, sand), bifacial modules produce 7-15% more annual energy than monofacial equivalents. The bifaciality factor (0.70-0.85) measures how much of the front efficiency the rear side captures. Bifacial modules cost $0.005-0.010/W more than monofacial but deliver strong ROI for utility-scale ground-mount. For rooftop installations with no reflective surface, bifacial premium is usually not justified.
